As some of you may know, I have just acquired a good size bandsaw and thought I would test it's and my own resaw capabilities today. So, I trimmed up a small 8 1/2" x 2 1/2" x 28" board of this stuff and set to work.

It is quite hard wood and even with the cheap nasty 7tpi blade that came with the saw, the resaw was a piece of cake...yes this is another shameless gloat If you would like to know more on the saw, see my earlier post "New (old) Bandsaw' but, the question for you guys in the USA and other parts of the world other than Australia and New Zealand is........

What in the world is this wood?

It is well quite well quartered, but that is hard to see from this poor image.

And well figured, this is straight from the saw and wiped with mineral turps.

So, what is it you woodophiles?

Cheers all

Kim

Would pass for a slice of Bubinga. What is it? Looks like some major pore filling on that one.

I have some Tasmanian Myrtle that looks similar to that, but flamed not quilted. Similar color and grain otherwise.

I'll have to get a closer look at it. Why don't you go ahead and send it to me, then I'll tell ya.

(Looks bubinga-ish.)

Russell was right on the money folks it's Jarrah from Western Australia, congrats mate, you know your wood. I let things go to see what others would come up with while I had a sleep.

The slice in the image was the second of 3 that came from the board with gum pockets. The rest of the board is clean Jarrah reputedly makes a very loud guitar with great mids, now I just need to find some side material to match

Cheers all, and well done Russell
